What Telegram Stars rating means

Telegram profiles can display a numerical rating based on the volume of successful transactions made with Telegram Stars. Telegram presents it as a signal that helps channel owners assess a user's transaction history for Suggested Posts and other requests.

The badge is not a general identity check, credit score or proof that every future deal is safe. It describes selected activity inside Telegram's Stars economy, so verify the exact account, gift, offer and payment terms separately before a transaction.

Which actions can increase the rating

Telegram's official documentation names purchasing gifts, sending Paid Messages and funding Suggested Posts with Stars as actions that increase the rating. These are completed spending events, not ordinary chat activity, reactions or the age of the account.

Do not buy an unfamiliar gift or use an unverified bot only to chase a higher badge. The current profile screen is the appropriate place to inspect your level and progress, while the final confirmation screen remains the source for the actual Stars amount and purpose.

Before taking action

Telegram Stars rating checklist

  • The rating badge was opened in a current official Telegram client.
  • The exact Stars transaction that changed the rating was identified.
  • A gift conversion is not being confused with a marketplace resale.
  • A failed purchase is checked separately from the negative rating.
  • Receipts and transaction IDs are preserved without exposing account secrets.

Why refunds and gift conversion lower it

Telegram says that refunding Star purchases or converting gifts back into Stars decreases the profile rating. A conversion destroys the eligible gift and credits a Stars amount; it is different from keeping the gift, transferring it or completing a protected resale.

Do not assume that every gift sale or automatic refund has the same rating effect. Identify the event in Settings > Your Stars and compare it with the wording shown on the rating badge. The official sources support the refund and conversion rules, but not a universal rule for every marketplace action.

What a negative rating and pending rating show

Telegram's API allows both the rating value and level to be negative. Official client text describes a negative rating as a sign that the profile's payments are unreliable and can show an account-specific Stars amount required to fix the issue.

Your own account can also have a pending rating and a date when that pending value will be applied. That is not a published promise that every negative rating disappears after a fixed waiting period. Read the current badge details rather than copying another user's threshold or date.

Rating and Stars purchase restrictions are separate checks

A negative badge does not by itself explain every failed Stars purchase. Telegram's Stars documentation separately describes a purchase-blocked state tied to regional limitations. Payment processors, account state and the exact error shown at checkout can also determine which route is available.

If a purchase stopped working after a refund, record both facts without claiming one automatically caused the other. Check the rating details, Stars transaction history, store or payment-provider record and the current Telegram error. Official documentation does not state that every negative rating creates a universal purchase ban.

Handle refunds at the correct transaction layer

Telegram's Stars terms say unwanted or accidental Stars top-ups are final. A bot or Mini App that failed to deliver a digital purchase can issue a Stars refund, while a chargeback through Apple, Google or another provider concerns the original acquisition of Stars and can affect the account record differently.

A legitimate refund can still lower the displayed rating under Telegram's published rule. Preserve the transaction identifier, provider receipt, merchant conversation and rating screen. Do not give a support account your login code, QR approval, session file, recovery phrase or payment-card secrets.

What to do when the rating drops

Open the rating badge and transaction history in a current official Telegram client. Identify whether the change followed a top-up refund, merchant refund, gift conversion or another Stars event. If a refund was unauthorized, contact the responsible merchant and payment provider with the exact records before making another purchase.

Use only the amount and date shown for your account if Telegram offers a path to restore the rating. There is no reliable universal threshold to copy from a guide. If the displayed explanation conflicts with your records, preserve evidence and use official support routes rather than paying a private recovery service.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can a Telegram Stars rating be negative?

Yes. Telegram's API supports negative rating values and levels, and official clients can label the profile as having a negative rating.

Why did converting a gift to Stars lower my rating?

Telegram explicitly lists converting gifts to Stars as an action that decreases profile rating. The conversion also permanently removes the converted gift.

Does selling a Telegram Gift lower the rating?

Do not treat a resale as identical to conversion. Official sources specifically name conversion to Stars and refunded Star purchases; inspect the exact completed event in your history.

Does a negative rating block Stars purchases?

Telegram does not publish a universal rule that every negative rating blocks purchases. Its documentation separately identifies regional purchase blocks, so inspect the exact checkout error and provider record.

How many Stars are needed to fix a negative rating?

Use the account-specific amount shown by the current official client. Telegram does not provide one universal amount that applies to every profile.

Will a negative rating disappear after a fixed number of days?

Telegram documents pending ratings with an application date, but it does not promise one automatic expiry period for every negative rating. Check your own pending value and date.
