Six price signals that should not be confused

SignalWhat it describesMain limitation
Collection minimumLowest observed collection ask at a source and timeMay not match the item's model or characteristics
Model referenceObserved price context for one modelBackdrop, symbol, number and timing may differ
Specific listingOne seller's current asking priceIt may change, disappear or never sell

Net proceedsGross proceeds minus all applicable costsUnavailable if a required fee is unknown

Identify the exact item first

Confirm the collection, model, backdrop, symbol, number and any other visible characteristic before comparing prices. The cheapest item in a collection may not share the attributes of the gift you are examining.

Supply and occurrence data describe how often an attribute appears in the available dataset. They can help define a comparison group, but they do not prove demand or produce a fair value on their own.

Use the right price level

A collection minimum is the lowest observed asking price for any item in the collection at a stated source and time. A model reference narrows the comparison to one model. A specific listing belongs to one seller and one item. None of these is a completed sale merely because a price is displayed.

A completed transaction price is stronger evidence of what one buyer paid, but it still needs context: item identity, currency, time, fees and whether the transaction was comparable to the intended route.

Read Telegram's value fields separately

Telegram's API can return value information for a unique collectible through payments.getUniqueStarGiftValueInfo. The documented record separates an overall value from the initial sale, the most recent sale, a floor price, an average price and the number of listed gifts. Some fields are optional, so a client may show only the information Telegram currently has for that collectible.

The value_is_average flag explicitly distinguishes an average-based value, while last_sale_on_fragment identifies a last sale associated with Fragment. These labels describe the source or calculation of a displayed reference; they do not turn it into a standing bid, a guaranteed resale amount or seller net proceeds.

Understand externally reported purchases

Telegram now documents reportGiftPurchase, a custom Bot API method for external gift marketplaces to report completed purchases. A report includes the marketplace transaction identifier and time, total amount, USD or TON currency, sale type and the exact gift or gifts involved. The method is for transactions that have fully completed, not active listings or unaccepted offers.

The documentation defines how a marketplace submits the record, but a marketplace report is not an independent appraisal, and Telegram does not publish a rule that every external sale becomes its displayed value. Treat a reported last sale as one completed observation. Check its date, currency, sale type and exact item, then compare the floor, average, listing count and other close sales before drawing a price conclusion.

Read timestamps and missing data

GiftsWatch data is a stored snapshot, not a live order book. Read the source and timestamp with the value. A delayed snapshot can miss a removed listing, a new lower ask or a currency change; an absent field means the project does not currently hold that value.

Do not replace missing transaction or fee data with an optimistic assumption. Mark it unknown and verify it at the destination before making a decision.

Separate price from liquidity

Liquidity is the practical ability to complete a transaction near the expected price within an acceptable time. One low ask can disappear before execution; one high ask can remain unsold. Listing depth and completed-sale evidence are useful only when the project or destination actually supplies them.

A spread is the difference between two observed prices. It is not profit until both sides can be executed and every cost is included.

Convert gross price to net proceeds

Keep the asking or transaction price in its original currency, then list seller fees, buyer fees, royalties, network costs, withdrawal costs and conversion costs separately. Currency conversion introduces its own timing and rate assumptions.

Net proceeds remain unavailable when a required cost is unknown. A calculator can organize known inputs, but it cannot discover an unstored fee or guarantee execution.

Build a defensible comparison set

Start with the collection minimum, then narrow to the same model and relevant characteristics. Prefer recent, clearly identified observations in the same currency and sale route. Note why each comparable is included and which differences remain.

If there are too few comparable records, the honest conclusion is a wide range or insufficient data—not a precise valuation.

Know what the display cannot tell you

A displayed price is not an appraisal, an offer from GiftsWatch or a guarantee of resale. Rarity can influence collector interest, but it does not guarantee value. The highest asking price is especially weak evidence because no buyer has necessarily accepted it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the cheapest listing the value of my gift?

No. It is one asking price and may refer to different attributes. Use it as a reference, then compare the exact model, characteristics, timing, currency and evidence of completed transactions where available.

Does rarity guarantee a premium?

No. Occurrence data can define scarcity, but price also depends on demand, liquidity, route, fees and execution.

Is Telegram's last-sale price the same as its estimated value?

Not necessarily. Telegram documents separate fields for value, last sale, floor price and average price. Read the label and date attached to the number instead of treating every displayed amount as the same signal.

Can an external marketplace report a Telegram Gift sale?

Yes. Telegram documents reportGiftPurchase for external gift marketplaces, but only after a purchase is fully completed. The report is transaction evidence supplied by that marketplace, not a guaranteed fair-value appraisal.

Does one reported sale prove what my gift will sell for?

No. It proves only that one reported transaction used that amount for the identified gift or bundle at a specific time. Compare the exact attributes, currency, route, floor, average, listing depth and other completed sales.
