What Telegram Stars are

Telegram Stars are Telegram's in-app currency for digital goods and services. You buy them in the app or on Fragment and spend them on gifts, Premium for friends, paid posts and purchases in bots and mini apps.

Stars you buy can only be spent: Telegram's terms forbid selling, withdrawing or transferring them. Earned Stars are different. Channel and bot owners, and users who charge Stars for messages, can withdraw them through Fragment and receive Gram (TON's coin, called Toncoin until June 2026).

How to buy Telegram Stars

There are three ways to buy Stars, depending on your device.

The price is shown before you pay and can differ by store and region. Some regions add local taxes, and payment providers can apply their own fees and conversion rates. All Stars purchases are final.

  • iPhone and Android apps: buy a Stars package as an in-app purchase through Apple or Google.
  • Telegram Desktop, Telegram Web and the direct Android version: buy through @PremiumBot.
  • Fragment: buy a Stars package with TON at fragment.com/stars, for yourself or for a friend. Telegram's docs note that Fragment also allows larger purchases.

What you can spend Stars on

Stars work across Telegram's own features and in third-party bots and mini apps.

  • Gifts: send a gift, pay to upgrade one into a collectible, buy a collectible from another user or bid in a gift auction.
  • Telegram Premium as a gift for another user.
  • Digital goods and services in bots and mini apps, such as items in games.
  • Paid posts and media in channels, and paid subscriptions to channels and bots.
  • Star reactions that support a channel. The channel owner receives 100% of these Stars.
  • Paid messages to users who charge for messages. By default, the recipient gets 85% of the Stars paid.

How Stars work with gifts

Every gift in Telegram's catalog has a price in Stars. A regular gift you receive can be converted back into Stars for a limited time (7 days by default), and it can return fewer Stars than it cost. Conversion removes the gift, and gifts won in auctions cannot be converted.

When you sell a collectible in Telegram for Stars, you receive the price minus Telegram's commission. With the default setting in Telegram's developer docs, the seller keeps 80%.

Buying gifts raises your profile rating. Converting gifts to Stars and refunding Star purchases lowers it.

Who can withdraw Stars

Only earned Stars can be withdrawn: Stars earned by a channel, bot or mini app, and Stars that users earn by charging for messages. The withdrawal goes through Fragment, which pays Gram to your TON wallet at the market rate. Telegram's terms value each Star at 0.013 USD for bot developers and channel paid posts.

Example: 10,000 earned Stars × 0.013 USD = 130 USD in rewards, paid out in Gram at the market rate.

Earned Stars can take up to 21 days to become available, and they expire after 3 years. Only the owner of the balance can start a withdrawal, and Telegram asks for the account's two-step password.

Channel owners can also spend earned Stars on Telegram Ads. Telegram's terms count each Star as 0.02 USD of ad credit.

What a Star is worth in USD and TON

A Star has two prices. The purchase price is what you pay in the store, and it varies by package, store and region. The reward rate of 0.013 USD is what developers and channel owners receive.

1 TON = 1 Gram, so to get a TON amount, divide the USD value by the Gram price. Example: 1,000 Stars × 0.013 USD = 13 USD. At about 1.44 USD per Gram, the rate Fragment showed on 10 October 2026, that is about 9 TON.

The GiftsWatch Stars Calculator does this with the current TON/USD price from CoinGecko. You can also enter your own price per Star from the checkout screen.

Refunds and lost Stars

Telegram does not refund Stars bought by mistake. If a bot fails to deliver what you paid for, send it /paysupport; the developer can refund your Stars.

If the developer refuses a fair refund, take the transaction ID from Settings → Your Stars and report it to Telegram. If you delete your account or lose access to it, the Star balance is lost.
