Files and download speed
Free accounts can upload files up to 2 GB; Premium raises the limit to 4 GB. Anyone can download a 4 GB file that a Premium user sends.
Premium removes Telegram's download speed limits on your account. Your device, internet provider and network still set the actual speed.
Higher limits
Premium raises most account limits, usually to double the free value. The numbers below are the default limits in Telegram's API documentation (core.telegram.org/api/config), free first, then Premium.
If Premium ends, nothing is deleted: folders past the first 10 lock, GIFs past 200 are hidden, pinned chats past 5 are unpinned, and the bio shows its first 70 characters until you subscribe again.
- Chat folders: 10 free, 30 with Premium.
- Chats in one folder: 100 free, 200 with Premium.
- Channels and groups you can join: 500 free, 1,000 with Premium.
- Pinned chats: 5 free, 10 with Premium.
- Saved GIFs: 200 free, 400 with Premium.
- Favorite stickers: 5 free, 10 with Premium.
- Public channels and groups you can create: 10 free, 20 with Premium.
- Bio length: 70 characters free, 140 with Premium.
- Media captions: 1,024 characters free, 4,096 with Premium.
- Bots you can own: 20 free, 40 with Premium.
Voice, translation and AI tools
Voice-to-text turns voice and video messages into text, with no limit on how many you transcribe.
Real-time translation shows whole chats and channels in your language. Free users can translate single messages; Premium translates the entire chat.
Premium users also get 50 times more AI text edits per day than free accounts.
Privacy and chat control
You choose who may send you voice and video messages in Settings > Privacy and Security > Voice Messages, and you can limit new chats from people outside your contacts.
You can charge Stars for messages from people outside your contacts: Settings > Privacy and Security > Messages.
Chat management adds a custom default folder, automatic archiving of new chats from non-contacts, tags in Saved Messages, to-do lists and content protection in private chats.
You can see other people's last seen and read times even if you hide yours, watch stories in stealth mode and keep the full viewer list of your stories after they expire.
Emoji, stickers and profile
You can send custom animated emoji in messages, premium stickers with full-screen effects, extra reactions including custom emoji, and message effects. You can also set an emoji status.
Your profile gets a Premium badge, animated profile pictures that play in chats, custom profile colors and alternative app icons. You can also set a wallpaper for both sides of a private chat.
No sponsored messages, boosts and Telegram Business
Premium hides Telegram's sponsored messages, which Telegram shows in some large public channels. Promotional posts that channel admins publish themselves still appear.
Your subscription gives you 4 boosts to help channels and groups reach new levels.
Premium also includes Telegram Business features for running a business account.
How much Telegram Premium costs
Telegram does not publish one fixed price. The app shows your price before you pay, and it depends on where you subscribe (App Store, Google Play or @PremiumBot), your country and the plan length.
According to Telegram's FAQ, @PremiumBot is cheaper because Apple and Google fees do not apply, and yearly plans are discounted. Prices vary slightly by country and can include store fees and local taxes.
Premium gifts use one global rate. On Fragment on 10 October 2026, a prepaid term cost $11.99 for 3 months, $15.99 for 6 months and $28.99 for 12 months, paid in crypto.
Telegram's terms promise at least 30 days' notice before a renewal price changes, so you can cancel first.
Is Telegram Premium worth it?
Premium is worth it if you hit a free limit or use one of its tools every week: files over 2 GB, more than 10 folders or 5 pinned chats, many voice messages, chats in other languages or a business account.
For light messaging, free Telegram covers the basics: unlimited cloud storage, large groups and channels, voice and video calls, and several devices and accounts.
Premium helps your contacts too: they can download your 4 GB files and add the premium reactions you used.
To try it without a recurring charge, buy a prepaid 3-month term on Fragment or ask for it as a gift. If you subscribe, you can cancel at any time and keep the features until the paid period ends.
