The difference in one minute
A regular gift is what you buy and send for Stars. A collectible is a regular gift that was upgraded: it gets a unique look, traits and a number, and it can be sold, transferred or moved to the TON blockchain. A regular gift can only be shown, hidden or converted to Stars.
What a regular gift is
Telegram sells regular gifts for a fixed price in Stars. The recipient gets it in the chat and can show it on the Gifts tab of their profile or hide it.
Some regular gifts are limited: Telegram sells a set number and then marks them sold out. Some can be bought only by Premium users.
By default the recipient has 7 days to convert a regular gift to Stars. Conversion destroys it.
What makes a gift collectible
Upgrading gives the gift a new look from dozens of variations drawn by Telegram artists, plus a random set of traits: backdrop color, symbol and number.
Each collectible has its own t.me/nft link, so anyone can open that exact gift.
Owners can wear a collectible as an emoji status, use it for chat themes, transfer it, sell it on the marketplace, combine gifts in crafting and move it to the TON blockchain as an NFT.
How upgrading works
Open a regular gift you received and choose to upgrade it. The price in Stars is shown before you pay; Telegram says it covers blockchain fees.
The sender can pay for the upgrade in advance, so the gift arrives ready to upgrade. Since August 2025 anyone can also send Stars to cover the upgrade of a gift on someone else's profile.
You can keep the original message, sender and recipient on the upgraded gift.
Which one to send or keep
Send a regular gift when the gesture is what counts. It costs only the gift's price, and the recipient can still upgrade it later or convert it to Stars.
Choose a collectible for someone who likes rare designs, wants to wear the gift as a status, or may want to sell or move it later.
Traits are random, so any upgrade can produce a common combination. Check recent prices for the collection before paying extra.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between regular and collectible Telegram gifts?
Collectibles are upgraded regular gifts with unique traits and a number. Only they can be transferred, sold or moved to TON.
Can a collectible gift be converted to Stars?
No. Conversion is only for regular gifts. A collectible can be sold on the marketplace for Stars instead.
Who pays for the upgrade?
Either side. The sender can prepay it when sending, the recipient can pay when upgrading, or anyone else can cover it with Stars.
Are collectible Telegram gifts NFTs?
They can become NFTs. A collectible stays inside Telegram until its owner sends it to the TON blockchain via Fragment.
